Weight Loss Injections in Charlotte, NC: 7 Questions to Ask Before You Start
Updated: 2 days ago

Search for weight loss injections in Charlotte, NC, and you will find big-box clinics, online prescription services and med spas all offering some version of GLP-1 treatment. The options can blur together fast. Before you choose a program, it helps to know what to ask so you can find care that fits your health, your schedule and your goals.
At Drip IV Wellness & MedSpa in NoDa, our medical weight loss program is built around a licensed provider and a plan, not just a prescription. Below are the questions we think every Charlotte patient should ask, along with how we answer them.
What are GLP-1 weight loss injections?
GLP-1 receptor agonists are prescription medications that act like a natural hormone involved in appetite, fullness and blood sugar. Semaglutide is the best-known example, and tirzepatide is a related medication. They were first developed to treat type 2 diabetes, and some are now also approved for chronic weight management in certain adults.
For some people, a GLP-1 used under medical supervision, together with changes in eating and activity, can help reduce appetite and support gradual weight loss. They are not right for everyone, and responses differ from person to person.
1. Who is evaluating me, and how?
A weight loss injection should start with a real medical evaluation. Ask who reviews your health history, whether that person is a licensed provider, and what happens if medication is not a good fit. In our program, your first provider visit is the longest. Your provider talks through your goals, eating habits, exercise, sleep and health history, and decides whether medication makes sense. Not every patient qualifies for medication, and that is a normal outcome of a careful evaluation.
2. Which medications are options, and are they compounded?
Programs differ in what they prescribe. Depending on your evaluation, our providers may discuss GLP-1 medications, other prescription options such as phentermine or topiramate, or a nutrition-first approach. Ask whether a medication is a brand-name product or compounded. Compounded medications are prepared by state-licensed pharmacies who are monitored and certified by the FDA, but they are not FDA-approved medications and have not been studied the same way as the brand-name versions. Your provider should tell you exactly what you are being prescribed and why.
3. Is anyone checking in after I start?
Follow-up is where a lot of online programs fall short. Ask how often you will see a provider, how dose changes are handled and who you contact if side effects come up. Our three-month program includes three visits with a medical provider and one visit with a nutritionist, completed within 90 days. Enrolled patients also come into our NoDa office for monthly weigh-ins so your provider can track progress and adjust the plan.
4. What about nutrition and muscle?
GLP-1 medications can change how hungry you feel, but they do not decide what is on your plate. Eating enough protein, staying hydrated and keeping up strength training help protect muscle and energy while you lose weight. That is why a nutritionist visit is part of our program, and why we often suggest adding nutrition counseling at the start.
5. What side effects should I expect?
The most common side effects of GLP-1 medications are digestive: nausea, reduced appetite, constipation, diarrhea or heartburn. They are often most noticeable when starting or increasing a dose. GLP-1 medications are not recommended for people with certain conditions, including a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2, a history of pancreatitis, or pregnancy. Your provider will review these and any other risks with you before you start.
6. Does the program promise a number?
Be cautious of any program that guarantees a specific amount of weight loss or a fast timeline. Progress is usually gradual and depends on your health, the medication, nutrition, activity and consistency. We will not promise you a number. We will give you a provider who checks in, adjusts your plan and keeps your safety first.
7. Is it convenient enough to stick with?
The best plan is one you can keep up for months, not weeks. Location and hours matter when you are coming in every month. Our Charlotte med spa is at 3123 N Davidson St, Suite 103, in the heart of NoDa, a short drive from Uptown, Plaza Midwood and University City. We are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. While you are here, you can also explore IV hydration, facials and natural-looking Botox at our Charlotte location.
